About Beth, the owner/lead instructor:
After running competitively and completing six marathons, Beth was diagnosed with an inheritable connective tissue disorder and told she should never run again. She was also advised to try Pilates. She fell in love, and although she did not run for years, through the combination of Pilates, strength training, and study of the body, she was finally able to return to her first love, as well. She has been able to apply what she has learned - and more - to teaching clients of a variety of health and fitness levels.
Beth currently holds her Comprehensive Pilates certification from Peak Pilates in addition to her Beginner and Intermediate Mat certifications from Power Pilates. Currently, Beth works out and takes continuing education from Shari Berkowitz of the Vertical Workshop.
About Pilates:
Pilates is a system of exercise that can benefit people at all levels of fitness. Its hallmark focus on moving the limbs from a strong core provides stability and strength for athletes wishing to improve at their sport and avoid injury along with healthy individuals and those recovering from injuries. Because of the focus on balance, many muscular imbalances are addressed, thus improving posture, health, and well being.
FAQ about Pilates:
Am I too big/out of shape/old to do Pilates? NO! If anyone has ever told you that you were, shame on them. Pilates is for EVERY BODY.
Is Pilates only for women? No! It is named after its inventor, Joseph Pilates, after all, and he intended it to be for everyone, whether they are nonbinary, male, or female.
Do I need to be super flexible like a dancer for Pilates? Again, no. While Pilates will increase your flexibility through active movement, there is no need to be super flexible in order to do Pilates. In fact, hypermobility (that is, overly flexible joints and tissues) can be a challenge we work against in Pilates, because our goal is not to overstretch the joints and ligaments
Can I do Pilates if I am pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or have recently given birth? Yes! Beth is trained in both pre- and post-natal Pilates and can work with you safely.
Do I need to have fancy workout clothes to do Pilates? No. You just need clothing you can move in.
